Senior Copy Editor

We are searching for the ideal communicative candidate who is proactive and passionate about client subject matter and the B2B content that supports marketing programs. The Senior Copy Editor acts as the central cog in the agency’s copywriting efforts. S/he builds strong relationships with the agency’s internal teams, develops and maintains a pool of expert copywriting resources, and takes a strong interest in client subject matter. Above all, the Senior Copy Editor strives to ensure content developed on behalf of clients is of the highest possible quality. 

To succeed in this position, candidates should have exceptional writing, communication and computer skills. You should be resourceful, adaptable and organized with the ability to build rapport with internal team members, external resources and clients.

General Senior Copy Editor Responsibilities:

  • Understand the nature of content requirements in the context of broader client marketing efforts.
  • Acquire a working knowledge of all client subject matter, including conceptual understanding of audiences, served markets and business dynamics.
  • Maintain strong understanding of copywriting resource pool in terms of subject matter and skill sets.
  • Align and assign internal and external copywriting resources to jobs.
  • Review and edit copy to ensure alignment with project needs and client expectations.
  • Build relationships with fellow team members based on trust and respect.
  • Manage deadlines.

Specific Senior Copy Editor Duties:

  • Collaborate with TriComB2B’s resources (client services, creative, PR/media, production management) to understand assignments so content aligns with project deliverables.
  • Actively develop and augment existing pool of internal and external resources to keep pace with agency growth and new client wins; vet new writers.
  • Maintain an accurate schedule of all content assignments and provide status updates to production management and client services teams proactively.
  • Connect client services team members (and by extension, client subject matter experts) with assigned copywriters.
  • Edit copy to ensure deliverable quality: subject matter accuracy, tone and audience, and content effectiveness.
  • Manage deadlines proactively and anticipate scheduling issues. 
  • Work with traffic manager to document project costs and issue purchase orders.
  • As needed, develop original content to meet special requirements.

Senior Copy Editor Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, marketing or related field.
  • 10+ years’ experience as a B2B copywriter and/or editor. 
  • Understanding of B2B marketing concepts.
  • The drive and energy to manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Computer and typing skills, especially MS Office.
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently and effectively to meet required deadlines.
  • Ability to learn quickly and apply that knowledge.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Minimal travel may be required.
