Senior Communications Specialist

We are looking for a Senior Communications Specialist to join our team. The role requires a blend of public relations, social media, writing and account management. This position reports to the PR Director.


  • Account Service: Manage multiple clients simultaneously; meet and liaise with clients during projects and campaigns to assess needs and advise on PR strategy and direction; work with team members to develop PR campaigns that meet clients’ goals, objectives and budget parameters; collaborate with clients and internal agency personnel to build positive relationships, help drive client PR and social media strategy and planning efforts, and work with account team to integrate other marketing efforts 
  • Engagement: Manage trade media relations; research, write, edit and distribute news releases; secure placement of feature stories, byline and technical articles on behalf of clients; update and maintain media lists, status sheets and editorial calendars for each PR client; correspond with media to schedule interviews, pitch stories, and obtain value-added earned media opportunities for clients such as award and speaking opportunities
  • Writing: Research, write and edit PR materials, client/media correspondence, talking points and strategic content for social media
  • Measure: Monitor, track, assess and report media coverage monthly, quarterly and annually; be proficient in understanding and reporting PR and social media analytics against client objectives
  • Support: Assist clients at trade shows and other events; facilitate media outreach and on-site booth visits; coordinate press events when necessary; and conduct client media training
  • Oversee: Flawless execution, including managing project timelines
  • Seek: Proactively conduct regular research on clients, client industries and related matters to explore opportunities to share information across multiple platforms; actively determine PR and social media opportunities to expand understanding and use of paid social
  • Other duties as assigned


  • 5–8 years of experience in a communications or marketing agency/department environment
  • Expertise with media research tools or web analytics, such as Google Analytics, Cision/TrendKite
  • Project management and organizational skills; must be able to work independently and with teams, and multi-task
  • Experience leading or supporting PR campaigns for B2B or B2C clients
  • Professional demeanor and ability to present to the organization and clients on various industry topics
  • Previous experience pitching local/regional media outlets and developing relationships with members of the media
  • Experience writing and scheduling social media posts and recommending social media advertising (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn)
  • Familiarity with AP Style
  • Attention to detail; being proactive; excellent written and verbal skills 
  • Intrinsically motivated self-starter, team player, critical thinker and effective communicator
  • Positive attitude; ability to handle stressful situations and the pressures of meeting tight deadlines calmly
  • Ability to manage urgent client requests and constructively push back with sound rationale when necessary
  • Some travel may be required to support large client trade shows


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in PR, journalism, communications or marketing
  • Working knowledge of SEM and SEO best practices
